Talk — De temps en temps : quand le disegno rencontre le dessin contemporain ✏️

Pour les artistes et théoriciens•nes de la Rennaissance, le dessin – ou disegno – était autant la pratique de cette discipline vénérable que la formation de pensées et concepts. De nos jours, le mot dessin ou même son équivalent anglais « drawing », a perdu cette polysémie dans le langage courant. Néanmoins, les conservateurs•trices et curateurs•trices de dessin contemporain n’ont pas perdu le fil de cette histoire. Isabel Seligman et Irina Zucca Alessandrelli ont parcouru l’histoire du dessin contemporain à la lumière du sens profond du mot disegno, d’une part par le biais de la collection du British Museum (Londres) et, de l’autre par celui de la collection Ramo (Milan) consacrée au dessin Italien du XXe siècle.

Talk — Now and then : when disegno meets contemporary drawing ✏️

For the artists and theoreticians of the Renaissance, drawing - or disegno - was as much the practice of this venerable discipline as the formation of thoughts and concepts. Nowadays, the word drawing, or even its English equivalent, has lost this polysemy in everyday language. Nevertheless, curators of contemporary drawing have not lost the thread of this history. Isabel Seligman and Irina Zucca Alessandrelli have explored the history of contemporary drawing in the light of the profound meaning of the word disegno, on the one hand through the collection of the British Museum (London) and, on the other, through the Ramo collection (Milan) devoted to Italian drawing of the twentieth century.

Talk — La danse cosmique 🪐✨

Stephen Ellcock, auteur, entre autres, de l’ouvrage The Cosmic Dance (Taschen, 2022) entretient un échange avec Karine Rougier dont il collectionne le travail. Son ouvrage propose une imagerie transculturelle et souvent mythologique, du micro au macroscopique. Néanmoins, loin du regard distancé du chercheur, « The Cosmic Dance » est le fruit d’une réhabilitation de l’esprit de l’auteur au travers des images chinées.

Détournant ici le format classique de l’entretien d’artiste, cet échange éclairci autant la pratique de l’artiste que la façon dont les images peuvent sauver le•a théoricien•ne.

Talk — The cosmic dance ✨🪐

Stephen Ellcock, author of, among other works, The Cosmic Dance (Taschen, 2022), has an exchange with Karine Rougier whose work he collects. His work proposes a transcultural and often mythological imagery, from the micro to the macroscopic.

Nevertheless, far from the distanced gaze of the researcher, “The Cosmic Dance” is the fruit of a rehabilitation of the author’s spirit through the images he has found. By diverting the classic format of the artist’s interview, this exchange shed light on the artist’s practice as well as on the way images can save the theorist.

💻 Talk — Hommage à Vera Molnár, défricheuse de l’informatique sensible

Ce talk est un hommage à l’artiste Vera Molnár dont la passion pour le coding et la sensibilité formelle des ordinateurs ainsi que leurs programmes, lui a permis de défricher un rapport d’entente entre le dessin contemporain et la technologie.

Pionnière de l’utilisation de l’ordinateur dans la création artistique, ou du « generative art », Vera Molnár, née en Hongrie, installée en France depuis la fin des années 40, et qui fêtera son centenaire en 2024, a dessiné toute sa vie par le biais de l’ordinateur et du plotteur. En autodidacte, elle a appris la méthode de code Fortran à la fin des années 60 pour produire des dessins au plotteur qui inquiétèrent ses proches, lui reprochant de déshumaniser l’art.

This talk is a tribute to the artist Vera Molnár whose passion for coding and the formal sensibility of computers and their programs, has enabled it to develop a relationship between contemporary drawing and technology.

A pioneer in the use of computers in artistic creation, or “generative art”, the Hungarian-born artist Vera Molnár, who has lived in France since the end of the 1940s and will celebrate her centenary in 2024, has drawn all her life using computers and plotters. Self-taught, she learned the Fortran code method in the late 1960s to produce plotter drawings that worried those close to her, who accused her of dehumanising art.
