Presentation of the gallery

Since her first exhibitions in 1975, Catherine Issert has developed an international artistic program. In 1976, the gallery participated in the FIAC, then in art fairs such as Artissima, Art Genève, Art MonteCarlo, and Drawing Now. The gallery represents a considerable number of international artists, with whom it has strong ties. Few of the major trends that have emerged since the 1960s have escaped his attention, such as Support/Surface, with Claude Viallat. ; Narrative Art with Peter Hutchinson, Fluxus with Robert Filliou in 1981, Arte Povera with Pier Paolo Calzolari, Conceptual Art with John M. Armleder and Olivier Mosset, Free Figuration with Jean-Charles and Geometric Abstraction with Michel Verjux, Felice Varini, Cécile Bart - François Morellet, attached to the gallery since 1990. These four decades of rigorous selection have been beneficial in forging links with major artists, but also with museums and national art centres, which regularly place their trust in Catherine Issert: Musée national Fernand Léger - Michel Verjux 2010 and John Armleder 2014, Fondation Maeght - Pascal Pinaud 2016, Hôtel de Caumont - Vladimir Skoda 2017, and Marc Chagall Museum - Cécile Bart 2021.

Galerie Catherine Issert continues to enrich its programming by collaborating with Korean artist Minjung Kim and emerging artists such as Marine Wallon and Martin Belou.

Presentation of the artist in focus

Galerie Catherine Issert is very pleased to announce the exhibition of Claude VIALLAT's drawings, specially designed for the DRAWING NOW ART FAIR 2024.

The gallery is committed to Claude VIALLAT by offering him a very eclectic choice of papers of various qualities and formats to give life to unexpected improvisations. "Paper as a medium for all possibilities."

The use of the stencil, standardized in painting, will be adapted according to the shape and support of the paper. Indeed, drawing engenders more mastery in the artist than pictorial practice.

"Drawing is what I know how to do, painting is what I keep discovering"
